How to Make Iced Tea with Loose Leaf Tea

How to make iced tea with loose leaf tea

Loose leaf tea makes excellent iced tea because you can control the strength, sweetness and flavour. You can brew it hot and chill it quickly, or cold steep it slowly in the fridge.

Method 1: Hot brew and chill

Brew the tea slightly stronger than usual, then pour it over ice. This works well when you want iced tea quickly. Use a little extra leaf so the ice does not dilute the flavour too much.

Method 2: Cold steep

Add tea leaves to cool water and leave them in the fridge for several hours. Cold steeping gives a softer, smoother cup and works especially well with green tea, white tea, fruit infusions and rooibos.

Best teas for iced tea

Try Jasmine Superior for floral iced green tea, Coconut Green for something creamy and fresh, Strawberry Kiwi for a caffeine-free fruit infusion, or Rooibos Peach for a smooth caffeine-free iced tea.

Should you add sugar?

You can, but you do not have to. Fruit teas and rooibos often taste naturally rounded. If you do sweeten, add sugar or honey while the tea is warm so it dissolves properly.
